Individual characteristics
In order to make the visual overview easier for our customers there are several ways to distinguish the different units. The icon that displays where the unit is on the map can be updated by the customer and the same is the case with the color trail that shows where the unit was. On top of this the units can be divided into groups.
On the profile site the customers can also attach following information to the units:
- Unit Name
- Driver name and photo
- Co-driver name and photo
Reporting
The reporting tool consists of a fully automated “Report generating module” with predefined report templates. The user only needs to select the unit(s) and the report template and define the time period. Following are examples of the report templates available:
- Daily Report - Start and stop time, total mileage, average speed, top speed and vehicle “on” and “off” time.
- Speed Report - Speed chart showing the speed of the unit(s) in an easily decipherable manner.
- Tax Driving Report - Showing tax-deductible mileage for tax declaration.
Alerts and security
The Track My Business system is equipped with different kinds of security measures allowing a number of automatic alerts such as:
- Speed Control – Alarm is sent if the vehicle exceeds the defined maximum speed
- Towing Alarm – Alerts you if vehicle is moving without being turned on
- Geo Fencing – Leaving or entering a certain geographical area
- Time Alarm – Alarm is sent if the vehicle moves within or outside a defined time interval
- Removal Alarm – If someone tries to disconnect the chip from the main power supply.
Alerts are sent out directly from the system to the e-mails or mobile phones (SMS) defined by the customer.
Customization & integration
If requested, we can offer our corporate customers a branded and customized version of the Track My Business system, with for instance the following changes:

Chips, Phones and PC's
There are many different kinds of hardware used to track “units/assets” and therefore it is important to find the correct devices for exactly your needs:
- Personal Tracking device : Small device with limited functionality and battery time. Supports push tracking as well as real time. (used in the TMB Light and TMB Light+ products).
- Asset Tracking device : Middle sized device with large individual battery or possibility for external battery connection. Used for industrial equipment, valuable cargo, shipping etc.
- Fleet Management device : Middle sized device intended for long term/permanent installation in a vehicle. Possibility for extra data inputs such as temperature, tyre pressure, car diagnostics and much more.
- GPS enabled mobile devices and PCs: : More and more mobile phones are GPS enabled and thus can be used as ‘GPS units’ and tracked on the Track My Business system. The same goes for laptops and travel PCs that are GPS enabled. A mobile application needs to be installed on the device so it can communicate with the Track My Business system.
The software solution
The system is a custom developed web solution for asset tracking and fleet management using only Microsoft technologies.
The solution is built on Microsoft’s .Net 3.5 framework using the latest Silverlight technology to ensure the best possible user experience on the frontend. Microsoft BING Map service provides the system with up-to-date and high quality mapping material from traditional map views to aerial photography and eagle view capability.
Microsoft’s newest platform Azure is handling all analysis and algorithmic in the system guaranteeing speed and uptime while working on the system, no matter how many users are logged on.
Microsoft Cloud hosting ensures high-speed accessibility operating it from anywhere in the world.
How does it work?
The TMB system works by communicating through a GPS chip that can be attached to any object/vehicle that you wish to monitor and/or analyze the behavior of.
Illustrating the flow of communication the image on the right shows the “unit”, in this example a truck. The GPS chip is installed in the truck using the truck’s battery.
The chip calculates its position from at least 3 satellites and after calculating longitude, latitude and altitude the chip sends this via GSM/GPRS to the TMB System, which then translates the data into a position on the map.
GPS, GSM and GPRS
The GPS chips communicate with the web system through the GSM/GPRS antennas providing coverage through local GSM/GPRS providers.
If the chip is outside GPRS coverage its internal memory takes over the storage of the coordinates until the chip is back in an area with coverage. This means that no history will be lost.
When a chip leaves the country, by default, it will stop sending data to the Track My Business system until it comes back to its original network. The internal storage device will be storing all movement within this period.
Track My Business also provides solutions with roaming in several countries or the whole world, but such solutions are custom made for each customer to ensure the highest value for money.
